With New Bern celebrating 300 years in 2010, there are many great events taking place –below are some of the highlights – for a more complete list, go to visitnewbern.com or newbern300.com.

The Neuse River Region Association of REALTORS® presented Martha with its 2009 REALTOR of the Year Award recognizing her contributions to the community, association, and real estate industry. The Award is presented annually to a REALTOR nominated by his or her peers.

Martha has been an agent for more than 10 years with Coldwell Banker Willis-Smith Company and was the Association’s 2009 Board President.  She has been a board member for eight years.  Martha also received Coldwell Banker Real Estate Corporation's 2009 Sterling Society Award for outstanding sales. Martha lives in New Bern with her husband Mike and their two sons.

22nd Annual Antiques Show and Preview Gala

The New Bern Preservation Foundation members are gearing up for the largest Antique Show in its twenty-two year history. More than 50 dealers, by invitation only, will participate.   The Preview Gala party is on Thursday, February 11th, 6-8 p.m. and includes a Cocktail Reception, Live Music, Strolling Fashion Shows, and Preview Shopping.  A special exhibit, 'New Bern Collects', will give attendees a one time showing of private New Bern Collections.

Tryon Palace Historic Sites and Gardens Presents

A free lecture at the Tyron Palace Auditorium: "The Law is Too Slow: Lynching in North Carolina 1885 -1906" On Thursday, January 21, Dr. Parker will highlight the time from 1885 to 1906, when 43 people were lynched in North Carolina; 33 were black, while 10 were white.  This number includes one female, lynched with three men between Pittsboro and Moncure, North Carolina in September, 1885.  Though anti-lynching legislation was passed in 1893, no one was arrested for participating in mob action until 1906. This free lecture is at 7 p.m. in the Tryon Palace Visitor Center auditorium at the corner of George and Pollock streets. The public is encouraged to attend.

What does New Bern have to offer in the way of children’s activities?

The Community Associations Institute trade association estimated that POA’s governed 23 million American homes and 57 million residents in 2006.
