The Celebration is over, but New Bern continues to shine!

WHEW, the 300th celebration of the founding of New Bern is over!!!  For 52 weeks in 2010, I do believe there was at least one party a week celebrating the 300th.  Everyone joined in for fun, volunteered for work, and celebrated together.  Even in a poor economy, New Bern really shined for a whole year.  And guess what, it continues to shine in 2011. 

I sold a house recently to a couple who have lived all over the world.  As they planned for retirement, they selected New Bern from all the other places.  I asked them "why?"  They said that people from all walks of life live here and enjoy taking part in an inclusive community.  They said for a small town, New Bern offers good health care, good educational facilities, great arts and entertainment, and…

ArtWalk 2011 in Downtown New Bern Starts This Week!

Friday, January 14th, is the first evening for the New Bern ArtWalk 2011 series.  Galleries, art-related shops, restaurants and stores will have extended hours on Friday in downtown New Bern.  Take in new art exhibit openings such as the Bank of the Arts "A Shared Promise and Responsibility".  The exhibit features photography by Bill Lease and pottery by Eastern North Carolina Potters.  And while at the Bank of the Arts, be sure to purchase your ticket for the 'Empty Bowls' fundraiser, a project designed to fight hunger.  Local churches and restaurants will make, serve and donate soup and bread to serve at the event, scheduled for Thursday, February 10th at Temple Baptist Church.  You will also get your choice of a locally-made pottery bowl.
