New Bern is such a great place to live!
Tuesday, July 13th, 2010 at 1:36pm. 307 Views, 0 Comments.
I moved here in 1981 from a large city and my friends told me I would be back because I would have nothing to do in this small Eastern North Carolina town. Well, were they wrong. They finally called and asked if I was coming back to visit them!!! I live beside the Trent River and have my boat just outside my front door. After a stressful working day, I come home, get in my boat and just toddle down the river. What a relaxing way to live. If I want, I can go to the Civic Theater for a good play or go hear the NC Symphony on the grounds of Tryon Palace and listen to good music. All around the community are great recreational things to do – canoe, sail and kayak on the rivers; soccer, baseball, football, basketball during the seasons; art walks; great…

Another New Bern historic landmark home is now being offered by Coldwell Banker Willis-Smith for your consideration at $1,100,000. This large Federal-to-Greek sidehall frame house was constructed by Thomas Jerkins, a prominent merchant and ship owner, for his daughter on the occasion of her marriage in 1830. It remained in the Jerkins family until 1909 when the Duffy's, who were leaders in the local movement to reconstruct New Bern's Tryon Palace, bought the home. Their family maintained ownership until the mid 1990's. While the exterior of the home is quite simple, interior molding, elaborate pocket doors, large room sizes, and the lovely two-story porch makes this a home one of its kind. A handsome captain's walk spans the distance between the two…

During June, July and August, the average temperature in New Bern is 85 degrees. And nothing could be finer in Carolina than taking advantage of the numerous activities on the Trent and Neuse Rivers during the summer months. Sink a line off your boat and when you feel a tug, reel in a large-mouth bass that averages from 1 to 8 lbs. If relaxation is more your style, launch your kayak at Lawson's Creek and paddle up the Trent River for a smooth ride. Welcome Fourth of July with the Military Band as they play at the Union Point Park gazebo. Make sure you bring your lawn chair as you sit and watch the sky light up and the oooohhhhs and aaaahhhhs that accompany the fireworks.
If the comfortable average temperatures of 82, 74 and 66 degrees are your…

Surveys show that staging the home that you are trying to sell pays off -- and, most of the time, staging helps to sell a home quicker. Staging your homes does not mean that you have to spend a lot of money on pricey interior decorating. Here are some thrifty tips on staging your home:
- First Impressions Count. "You never get a second chance to make a first impression". Roll out the red carpet for potential home buyers by sprucing up your entryways, especially the main entryway. Nice welcome mats, planters filled with seasonal flowers, and clutter-free foyers/hallways set the stage.
- Sell the House, Not your Stuff. Remember that the goal of a successful showing is to make a prospect feel at home -- like it's their, not yours. Put away your…
