MUMS, MUMS, AND MORE MUMS!
Tuesday, November 15th, 2011 at 1:01pm. 37 Views, 0 Comments.
New Bern has been full of fall colors for the past months. No one can imagine, unless you are here, just how beautiful this community looks. Nestled between two large rivers with a casual walkway on the water all around the city, anyone can enjoy this 60 to 70 degree weather.
In the past 30 days, we have had “Ghost Walk”, the “Mum Festival”, the “Bike MS Historic New Bern”, Neuse River Run, “ArtWalk”, and numerous performances at Tryon Palace. This town is brimming with enjoyable things to do. Everyone can find something that fits their fancy. Now, having said all that, do come to New Bern and experience this delightful community. You will never be sorry and, I bet, you will want to come here to stay.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Nancy Stallings …New Bern's Spider Lily in Full Bloom
Tuesday, April 26th, 2011 at 1:38pm. 309 Views, 0 Comments.
Well, here's another reason to move to New Bern. Sunday, April 17th, the "SPIDER LILY" sculpture was put in place behind the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center. The graceful 29-ft. sculpture was commissioned by local pediatric dentist Jim Congleton. The artist, Susan Pascal Beran, a renowned sculpture artist, created a fabulous symbol of New Bern's prized Spider Lily in full bloom. Legend has it that the red spider lily (Lycoris radiata var. radiata) was introduced to New Bern, NC in the 1850s when Navy Captain William Roberts brought lilies back from Japan to plant in his home garden in New Bern. After arriving in New Bern, the red spider lilies slowly began spreading across the US.
Ms. Beran, the sculpturer, has major works in large cities like…

Spring is here!!!!! No more snow – lots of sunshine – take a daytrip to the beach!!!!! This has been a long and cold winter. People who moved to New Bern from the North were sure we misled them when we talked about our wonderful winter climate. Well, most of the time our weather really is nice in winter – but not this year. One of my new Northern friends told me that it was cold in New Bern – but it was freezing in Rochester!!
As we all come out of our cocoons, get ready for “Spring in New Bern”!! Enjoy the perimeter walkway
around the City. Stop in at one of the local restaurants and meet all the old and new people who live in our City. At the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center: in March, enjoy the Spring Home and Garden Show; in April (all…
The Celebration is over, but New Bern continues to shine!
Wednesday, January 26th, 2011 at 12:31pm. 183 Views, 0 Comments.
WHEW, the 300th celebration of the founding of New Bern is over!!! For 52 weeks in 2010, I do believe there was at least one party a week celebrating the 300th. Everyone joined in for fun, volunteered for work, and celebrated together. Even in a poor economy, New Bern really shined for a whole year. And guess what, it continues to shine in 2011.
I sold a house recently to a couple who have lived all over the world. As they planned for retirement, they selected New Bern from all the other places. I asked them "why?" They said that people from all walks of life live here and enjoy taking part in an inclusive community. They said for a small town, New Bern offers good health care, good educational facilities, great arts and entertainment, and…
Middle Street in New Bern, NC - One of the Top Ten Streets in America!
Wednesday, November 10th, 2010 at 2:03pm. 179 Views, 0 Comments.
WOW!!! Middle Street, in Historic Downtown New Bern, NC, has been selected by The American Planning Association as one of the Top Ten Streets in America. This beautiful small community of 28,000 people continues to show the rest of the country how proud we are to live, work and play here. Working through an organization called Swiss Bear (we are the sister city to Bern, Switzerland), we started in the early 1980’s with a worn-out looking community and transformed it into a beautiful place to live. New Bern and Middle Street sit at the convergence of two large rivers and make us a peninsula city. On the point is an attractive public park called Union Point that was built by small donations from everyone in the community. You can live right downtown in…

New Bern is such a great place to live!
Tuesday, July 13th, 2010 at 1:36pm. 452 Views, 0 Comments.
I moved here in 1981 from a large city and my friends told me I would be back because I would have nothing to do in this small Eastern North Carolina town. Well, were they wrong. They finally called and asked if I was coming back to visit them!!! I live beside the Trent River and have my boat just outside my front door. After a stressful working day, I come home, get in my boat and just toddle down the river. What a relaxing way to live. If I want, I can go to the Civic Theater for a good play or go hear the NC Symphony on the grounds of Tryon Palace and listen to good music. All around the community are great recreational things to do – canoe, sail and kayak on the rivers; soccer, baseball, football, basketball during the seasons; art walks; great…
New Bern is blossoming for Spring!

So many good things are happening in New Bern this Spring. We just opened our new $41 million Alfred Cunningham Bridge that provides a welcoming entry to Historic downtown New Bern. My office at Coldwell Banker Willis-Smith is located just two blocks from the newly replaced bridge. Along with our new bridge, we have almost completed one of our main thoroughfare streets, Broad Street. Believe it or not, we narrowed the street, put parking along the sides, and will put all the wiring underground and plant trees in the center island. Fifty years ago, Broad Street trees were removed to make the street wider to accommodate large truck traffic that came across the Neuse River by way of the John Lawson Bridge. That bridge was torn down in early 2000…
