New Bern Offers Four Seasons and Many More Reasons to Enjoy Them!
Posted by Tammy Ferebee on Tuesday, May 25th, 2010 at 3:47pm.During June, July and August, the average temperature in New Bern is 85 degrees. And nothing could be finer in Carolina than taking advantage of the numerous activities on the Trent and Neuse Rivers during the summer months. Sink a line off your boat and when you feel a tug, reel in a large-mouth bass that averages from 1 to 8 lbs. If relaxation is more your style, launch your kayak at Lawson's Creek and paddle up the Trent River for a smooth ride. Welcome Fourth of July with the Military Band as they play at the Union Point Park gazebo. Make sure you bring your lawn chair as you sit and watch the sky light up and the oooohhhhs and aaaahhhhs that accompany the fireworks.
If the comfortable average temperatures of 82, 74 and 66 degrees are your preference, the months of September, October and November are just right for you. Mum's the word during this season as the traditional MumFest weekend kicks off the 2nd weekend in October of every year. This festival is for all ages as you enjoy vendors, music, rides and that southern hospitality. We usually expect to see about 80,000 festival-goers.
And in December, January and February, you won't need a snow blower in New Bern. The average temperature in December is 58 degrees, and in January and February the range is about 45 -55 degrees. If the white stuff does come our way, don't worry, it's here just long enough to dust off the sled and head to Glenburnie Park for the day and before you can blink your eyes, Frosty says goodbye until next year. One thing you won't want to miss during this season is the annual Coastal Christmas Flotilla on the downtown waterfront where Santa arrives via the 'Hatterascal' and greets children at Union Point Park.
During the months of March, April and May the average temperatures in New Bern are 64, 72 and 79 degrees respectively during the day. And Spring is the time to take advantage of "Free First Sundays' at the Tryon Palace Gardens. Tryon Palace was North Carolina's first capitol in which Governor William Tryon resided in the 1770's. Don't forget to bring your camera so you don't miss that special photo op of tulips, okra bloom and spider lilies.
No matter what time of year you visit, there is always something exciting to do in New Bern. And this year, New Bern celebrates its 300th anniversary and there are so many special events and activities planned throughout the year. Check them out here and plan to visit New Bern soon and enjoy our comfortable four season climate!
