If you are planning a trip to New Bern during the holiday season, you may want to attend one of the Tryon Palace Christmas Candlelight Tours on December 12 and 19 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.Costumed guides will escort visitors through parts of the Palace and Kitchen, which will be decorated for the holidays and lit with candle globes and fire baskets reminiscent of times past.There will be music and entertainment throughout the Palace and gardens with dancers, musicians, and other performances of acrobatics, juggling and sword swallowing.Outside the palace gates the Fife and Drum Corps will march from George Street to the Palace, and a troop will perform a mix of African American Christmas songs and dances from the 18th and 19th centuries.Finally a Grand Illumination of period-appropriate fireworks will take place on the Palace Grounds.Admission is $15 for Adults and $6 for Students.The event is sponsored by the Tryon Palace Historic Sites and Gardens.Call 800-767-1560 for more information.Enjoy!
