Philip Gonshak

As now a highly trusted and well respected, real estate sales associate for Coldwell Banker - Philip L. Gonshak began his law enforcement career at the Tempe, Arizona, Police Department in 2000. While in Tempe, he served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Undercover Narcotics Detective, SWAT Operator/Sniper, before joining the Seal Beach Police Department in 2007. Once lateraling to Seal Beach, he served as a Patrol Officer, Corporal, Sergeant, and Operations Commander, where he held a variety of assignments including, Community Oriented Policing/Beach Patrol Team, Detention Center Sergeant, SWAT operator, Sniper, Public Information Officer, Internal Affairs Investigator, and POST Training Coordinator. Additionally, he served as the West Orange County SWAT Team Commander (a regional team in Orange County, California, which serves the five cities of Seal Beach, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Los Alamitos, and Westminster) prior to his promotion to Chief of Police in 2019. After serving as the Chief of Police for three years, Philip became the Interim County Manager for Summit County, Colorado, in 2022 where he served until joining the Denver Police Department in 2023 as the Director of Strategic Initiatives.

Mr. Gonshak holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, a POST Executive Management Certificate, and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, all from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). He is a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School’s ‘Senior Executives in State and Local Governments’, the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute’s Class #384, the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Point Leadership Program, the California POST’s Executive Development Course, and the FBI National Academy’s Class #260. Lastly, Mr. Gonshak continues to serve as an Adjunct Professor for both the Graduate Center of Public Policy and Administration (GCPPA) at CSULB and for the Administration of Justice College at Long Beach City College (LBCC).
