Malia grew up on Oahu and returned home after living abroad and on the mainland for ten years. She is a graduate of Punahou School, Boston College, B.A. magna cum laude, and the University of California, Hastings College of Law, J.D. cum laude, Thurston Honors Society, and Order of the Coif. At Punahou School Malia was an all-state track and field athlete. She had the wonderful experience of living in Paris, Munich, Barcelona and Tokyo working as a professional print and runway model.
Malia supports charitable causes including Women’s Fund of Hawaii, JDRF, and the Aloha Medical Mission. Her interests include running, wine and traveling. Malia and her husband James have twin boys and a Boston Terrier.
