The quintessential New England town of Needham dates back to the late 1600s when colonists first began to settle in Massachusetts. Originally part of Dedham, the town was incorporated into the state in 1711. Needham gained attention when William Carter began the William Carter Knitting Company in Needham Heights, known today as Carter’s. When Carter’s factories moved to the south, Needham reinvented itself as a commuter town due to its close proximity to Boston and features a plethora of high end single family homes and condominiums. Wellesley was known as West Needham until it seceded in the late 1800s. Since its secession, the two towns have enjoyed an annual Thanksgiving football game, the oldest Thanksgiving high school game in the country and the second oldest rivalry.
Only 10 miles southwest of Boston and 3 miles south of Newton, Needham has four stops on the commuter rail’s Needham line and three exits on I-95/Route 128. Read More

Massachusetts’s Route 135 also runs through Needham.
