A prosperous town on the South Shore, Westwood lays 13 miles Southwest of Boston. Westwood has a long tradition of valuing education and academic pursuits. The Hale reservation was developed as an outdoor educational center for youths and features a variety of activities, including hiking trails and beaches, so children can learn about nature. The Colburn School was established in 1877 and deemed worth of preservation by the National Register of Historic Places. In 2010, Westwood began construction on a new town library which opened in the Summer of 2013. Westwood’s public school district has five different elementary schools, one middle school, and one recently refurbished high school. It is also is home to the Xaverian Brothers High School, a boys-only Catholic prep school.
