More about Kurt Kodama

As a third-generation home owner on the Monterey Peninsula, Kurt Kodama brings his life-long interest in real estate, drive to succeed and expertise developed in a corporate career spanning almost 30-years to the responsibility of representing Kodama Bosworth clients in the purchase or sale of their luxury homes and estates.

“I was born and raised in Monterey and understand the special appeal of each community in our area. I moved to Southern California to obtain an undergraduate degree from UCLA in economics and master’s degree from USC in business administration, and after earning my degrees, remained in Southern California to pursue a 27-year corporate career with Bank of America where I specialized in commercial real estate construction financing and then commercial real estate problem loan resolution.

Throughout my career, I honed my negotiation skills in high stakes and complex financing transactions which included some of Bank of America’s largest non-performing commercial real estate credit exposures and rose through the ranks of the organization. I led a West Coast based organization that resolved billions of dollars in problem commercial real estate construction financing in North America and that on occasion required the resolution of financing for jet aircraft, yachts, concourse quality automobile collections and jewels that were sold through the world’s most prestigious auction houses.

A few years ago, I retired from my corporate career and returned home to Monterey to help my aging parents. Through this experience, I understand caring for aging or ill parents while navigating the emotional and logistical difficulties of helping them sell the dream home they built and lived in for almost six decades.

In the past six years I have been through seven buying or selling transactions of my own including the purchase and sale of what at the time was my vacation home in Pacific Grove and, after a long search, the purchase of a primary home in Carmel. Through the experience I gained with my homes that I purchased, remodeled and sold in Southern California and on the Monterey Peninsula, I understand the general issues that exist when purchasing/remodeling a home and the specific ones that can exist due to restrictions in the area.

In my spare time, you will find me searching for my next home to purchase and remodel, curating a modest collection of art, sculpture, decorative art and furniture assembled over the last three decades through purchases made at auction houses in the United States and Europe, as well as enjoying the Monterey Peninsula’s world-renowned natural beauty; dining and recreation activities.”
