Coldwell Banker Charitable Foundation and Special Spaces Team Up to Create Dream Bedroom Makeover for 8 Year-Old Boy

Deerfield, Ill. (September 26, 2016) – The Coldwell Banker Charitable Foundation and Special Spaces Northern Illinois Chapter, a non-profit organization that creates dream bedrooms for children with life-threatening medical conditions, are teaming up for a bedroom makeover for 8 year-old Brookfield resident, Simon Connolly.

To help complete makeovers, Special Spaces depends on donations from individuals, local businesses, groups and even other foundations. All of the funds for Simon’s room were raised by Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage’s La Grange office. “I am truly touched by the amount of support we receive from our colleagues, friends and our community in our efforts to create a dream bedroom for this amazing child,” said Tricia Riberto, managing broker of the La Grange office. “We’re all very excited to be able to do this for Simon and his family.”

On Friday, September 30, Simon will come home to find a big surprise – a new dream bedroom. Simon is a sweet little boy who suffers from a PNET (primitive neuroectodermal tumor), a rare brain and spine cancer. When he was diagnosed the doctors gave him only a small chance of survival. However, he has responded very well to treatments, but is now is challenged with the side effects of those treatments.

Simon shares a room with his 10-year-old brother, Josh, who is extremely supportive and understanding. Both of the boys are big fans of superheroes; in particular Simon loves Iron Man and Josh loves the Flash. Their new room will incorporate a custom superhero mural and their favorite colors - blue and red - throughout. The new room will also include all new furniture, carpeting, bedding, Legos and much, much more.

Fran Broude, President of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, said “We are so proud and excited to give Simon a new bedroom. Our Foundation supports housing-related charities, and for an ill child their bedroom is definitely where they feel the most at home.”

Special Spaces’ goal is to create dream bedrooms for children with life-threatening medical illnesses. The focus is answering one question: Where does a child go when battling a serious illness to find peace and comfort? Their bedroom. “A bedroom is often the only personal space a child has to represent his or her unique personality, explains Amy Eiduke, Director of the Northern Illinois Chapter for Special Spaces. “For a child with a critical illness, that room should be a very special space of comfort and refuge.”
