Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage’s Global Luxury Office in Dallas to Sponsor Fall Architectural Tour
DALLAS, TX (October 17, 2017) – To honor the legacy of the late architect Frank Welch, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage’s Global Luxury office in Dallas will partner with Preservation Dallas to present their annual 2017 Fall Architectural Tour on Saturday, October 28. Showcasing eight of Welch’s most significant residential designs throughout the Dallas community, guests will have the chance to observe a decade-by-decade view of Welch’s architectural evolution.
During his 50-year architectural career, Welch became known as the “dean of Texas modernism” for his contemporary visions of the regional style. As his own style evolved over the years, Welch became known for conservative, unassuming designs focused on siting and natural light. His projects are peppered throughout Dallas in residences, educational, ecclesiastical and community spaces.
“Frank Welch spent most of his life in Dallas and to visit a chronological collection of his architectural work is a once in a lifetime celebration,” said Alicia Quintans, AIA, Preservation Dallas board president. “Welch refined his set of architectural details for stairs, doors, cabinets and skylights, the common denominators in his designs. Tour guests should look for similarities in details, yet independently unique spaces designed according to the site.”
Sales associates affiliated with the Dallas Global Luxury office are also sponsoring one of the tour properties, the Terry House, designed in 2010 and described by Welch as a Texas Palladian style. The home is made of Texas limestone and architectural concrete, accented with ipe wood and a seamed metal roof. Inside, Welch designed a central garden room, complete with high clerestory windows and a six-foot high ‘tic-tac-toe’ board spanning the space below the ceiling.
According to Mary Terry, property owner of the Terry House, “We ultimately chose Frank to design our home because we were familiar with his work and his team was easy to work with, full of ideas and understood our wish to not overwhelm our lot, as it had a natural beauty in itself that we wanted to preserve. We had never built a house before, but we felt like we were in good hands.”
The tour day will begin with check-in at the Lamplighter School at 8:30 am, followed by a symposium at 9 am. Tour houses will remain open from 10 am to 2 pm. General tour tickets are $50 and patron tickets are $100, including an additional home tour and the patron party on October 26. There is a discount for members of Preservation Dallas. More information and reservations can be made at this website.
