REALTOR® of the Year Award 2009:

This award shall be given to a member of the Oak Park Area Association of Realtors (OPAAR) who has shown exceptional meritorious service to the real estate profession and specifically to the OPAAR. The award recognizes the member's leadership and service in civic, community and charitable causes, as well as unselfish activity and involvement in the OPAAR. This award shall be given to the member who has promoted the real estate profession in a positive light and has served the OPAAR in a capacity above and beyond what is expected of them.

Before the housing market began its dramatic down turn many Realtors began noticing changes in lending practices, specifically as they affected the condo market. Joe was one member of a task force that looked into these issues in detail and was the presenting member on behalf of the OPAAR at Village Hall. Oak Park’s Village Board passed a resolution endorsing changes in financing rules, this was picked up by our local State Representative and a state law was passed allowing multiple types of loan options for condo purchases.


WALTER R. JAMES Award for Community Participation:

This award shall be given to a member of the Oak Park Area Association of Realtors (OPAAR) in recognition of his/her volunteer efforts to the community in the field of civic affairs or charitable work.

Joe has given time and resources to many local charities and participated in civic affairs. Some activities include a two term Commissioner to the Village of Oak Park’s Community Design Commission, Recipient of the Oak Park Area Leadership (OPAL) Award, and an eight year member of Biznet (2 terms as President). Joe continues to be active in several organizations helping in fundraising, events, out reach, and programming.
