55 Leggett Rd Stone Ridge, NY 12484

Set in one of the Hudson Valley's most coveted locations, this stunning and historic property offers a unique opportunity to own a legacy home just minutes from the charming village center of Stone Ridge, with easy access to the restaurants, shops, farmers markets and other attractions of Kingston and New Paltz. ''Clematis Cottage'' unfolds across 11+ acres of potentially subdividable land - a rare offering on highly sought-after Leggett Road - framed by mature trees and sweeping lawns that create a lush park-like setting from every angle of view. The 7-bedroom, 4.5-bath house, built by the neighborhood's namesake, Francis Leggett, is a striking example of shingle-style architecture, its sweeping rooflines, deep porches and artful proportions evoking the Gilded Age tradition popularized by the property's renowned architect Charles Coolidge Haight and his contemporaries like Stanford White. Past the deep front entry porch and its welcoming Dutch door are magnificent examples of original late 1890s architectural character, including octagonal sitting rooms, window seats, tall French doors, diamond-paned window sashes, stately crown moldings and other irreplaceable millwork, a Japan-inspired meditation room, and a remarkably gracious 48-foot wraparound screened porch. The stately mood extends outside with a long circular driveway canopied by massive old-growth sugar maples, a lotus pond and a new addition: a custom-built Hartley Botanic heated greenhouse and potting shed. Other recent improvements include a large indoor sauna, hand-screened wallpaper and refinished hardwood floors throughout both levels. A rare convergence of architectural pedigree, pastoral privacy, and prime Hudson Valley location, Clematis Cottage is a not-to-be-missed offering on one of the region's most storied roads.
