About Me

I am a true Charleston native, born and raised right here in the Low Country! I have lived all over the Tri-County Area; Isle of Palms, West Ashley, Downtown, Johns Island, Summerville and Mt. Pleasant. As a result, I have a personal understanding of the unique and wonderful characteristics each area has to offer.

In 1997, after my short teaching career I chose to become a part of my Father's, Mickey Rakes, real estate business. While in the Navy, he obtained his real estate license and has built a family business that has been going strong for thirty plus years! My Family Story

It all began in 1978, the year my Dad got his rel estate license. He was going to be getting out of the Navy soon and wanted to be able to continue to provide for my Mother, my sister and me. He started going straight from the Navy Yard to his real estate office to build up his clientele so he could hit the ground running...and boy, did he! After a few successful years, he convinced my Mom to get her license to help him out. This would also allow her to have a more flexible schedule so she could taxi around the teenagers (and keep a watchful eye from her home office)! You can imagine what family discussions were like at our dinner table; new listings and showings, inspection issues, problem solving and brain storming are just a few of my memories! Evenings were often spent stuffing envelopes for newsletters that we would deliver door to door on the weekend and "family time" often consisted of Sunday afternoons touring open houses so my parents could be familiar with the current inventory for their buyers (this was the pre-internet age)! After high school Dad encouraged me to go straight into "the business." However, like any young adult, I had to follow my own path. So, off to Winthrop University I went! I studied Elementary Education and became a teacher. Although I enjoyed working with children, I "retired" after three years, and you guessed it, got my real estate license!! That was back in 1997! I have been listing and selling ever since! I had no clue how much I had absorbed about real estate by just participating in the previously mentioned "family activities!" Did I mention that my sister also got her license when she was in college? So, we really are a "family helping families!" My Mom worked for many, many years as a site agent directly for a builder. However, she has recently joined our team! My sister has taken a break to raise her own family. We have added Cathy into our real estate "family." She is a true asset to our team. Each of us has a favorite part of our job, so we work well together to make sure your families real estate needs are being met. Thanks for taking the time to learn about me and my family.
