In 1801, President Jefferson rode his horse, along with a small entourage, to Barracks Row, and at the corner of 8th and I Streets, SE said "build it here." Of course, he was referring to what would become the oldest Marine Post of the Corps. Who would have known that some 165 years later, Barry Linde would ride up to a dilapidated corner (7th and G, SE) just some 2 blocks from where President Jefferson made his proclamation, and similarly proclaimed, I will build it here.
