20 Canessa Terrace Lynn, MA 01904

If there is one thing that seems to be true about Lynn, it is that there are hidden nooks, crannies + unexpected surprises throughout the city. Peer down Canessa Terrace and you won't even see #20. Tucked away at the far end, the home is granted immense privacy by a row of cedars that must be damn near two-and-a-half stories tall. And the house itself is only the first surprise.Outside, there is a fully fenced yard, sizable shed + newer composite side deck. Replacement windows, low-maintenance vinyl siding + recently repointed chimneys with replaced caps take care of some of the less glamorous stuff. But look closer. The rhododendron beside the front door + oversized rose bush in front of the chimney were planted by the family who originally built the house in the 1930s. According to the current owners, that rose bush still produces hundreds of blooms each year.Inside is one of those increasingly rare combinations: modern comfort layered into a home where the old craftsmanship was actually preserved. More than 1,800 square feet provides plenty of separation without making the home feel disconnected. A newer gas furnace supplies hot water through the original radiators, mini-splits provide cooling + supplemental heat on both floors, and the sewer line was lined to the street a few years ago with a 50-year warranty. But the character is the showstopper.Original woodwork appears throughout the first floor in the trim, baseboards, window casings, doors + floors. Arched openings frame the main living spaces. A double-swing butler's door leads to the kitchen. Carved rope-twist wood drapery hardware remains above the windows. Then there are the built-ins, exposed brass cabinet hardware, glass drawer pulls, farmhouse-style drainboard sink, vintage tile work + even the classic ironing board that folds directly out of the wall.Everywhere you look, there is another small piece of craftsmanship that simply isn't found in most modern homes. Come see why 20 Canessa Terrace feels less like a house that was made old again and more like a home that was allowed to stay itself.
