Tom Maira

I put in much time throughout many years into learning one thing: Commercial Real Estate.

My grandfather, Thomas A. Maira, got our family started in the business in the 1970s on Staten Island, eventually opening his own office in the 1990s, Maira Real Estate Inc. He was well known as
"The Land Man" across the Island.

My father, Thomas G. Maira Esq. (Akerman LLP Chair of Real Estate Private Equity, New York) for years taught me the business since I was young, by building a personal investment portfolio of Commercial Real Estate Properties all over CT, where I followed every step and detail of the acquisition process of each property acquired. He has given me the knowledge of a lifetime, and I cannot and never will be able to thank him enough for it all.

After I graduated from high school, I spent 2 semesters at the College of Charleston, where my declared major was Commercial Real Estate Finance.

Since I have such a massive passion for Commercial Real Estate, it was most important to me that I learned it more than anything else.

The college degree takes 4 years to get, and I was determined to get the education I needed in a shorter timeframe so I could get into the field much faster.

So, I then decided to take a DIFFERENT path...

When I concluded those 2 semesters, I left the College of Charleston. I immediately jumped into certificate programs, all from prestigious schools in the U.S. that specialize in Real Estate education.

These schools are the online programs of the Wharton School of Business, Fordham University, Cornell University, and the NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate.

All of these certificate programs, along with the guidance of my father, is what led me to become a Commercial Real Estate Associate at Coldwell Banker Commercial’s corporate office in Danbury CT.

Without all of these events throughout my journey, I would never have been in the position I am in today.
