Home on Former Grounds of The Annapolis Roads Beach Club Sells for $3.4 Million

The popular social club burned down in 1953 and was replaced with a waterfront luxury home

ANNAPOLIS, MD (April 2, 2018) – A luxury home on the former site of the Annapolis Roads Beach Club has just sold for $3.4 million. The waterfront property is located at 2562 Carrolton Road. Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage’s Travis Gray and Barbara Morris represented the sellers and Scott Schuetter with Century21 represented the buyers.

The seven-bedroom, eight-and-a-half bathroom sprawling estate was built in 1992, decades after the popular social gathering, the Annapolis Roads Beach Club, burned down. The beach club, built in 1928 on a bluff overlooking the Severn River, served as a popular attraction for the Washington elite. In its prime, the club’s property offered a golf course, tennis courts, restaurant and beach.

In the early morning of June 8, 1953, the top tier of the beach club caught fire and the building was destroyed. The land stood vacant for decades until the luxury home that stands today was constructed.

The grand residence now occupying the beach club site is spread over 12,000-square-feet of living space and three levels. Nearly every room of the home offers views of the river. Inside, an elevator, theater, gym, spa, library and caretaker’s apartment offer unparalleled luxury. A resort-style pool, manicured grounds, fountain, private beach and 660 feet of waterfrontage highlight the property.

The property closing marks the second-highest sale in Annapolis year-to-date.

QUOTE:

“There’s a magnetism with this property not just for its current grand state, but also with its intriguing history. It’s incredible to imagine the dignitaries and early 1900s lifestyle that these grounds witnessed.”
